The 15 Best New Restaurants In LA - The Infatuation (2)

A ton of new restaurants have opened since January, and we use our Hit List to keep track of all our favorites of the year so far. This week, we’ve added a Mexican-Italian fusion spot with a BYOB patio in Highland Park, a Beverly Hills sushi omakase hidden just off Rodeo Drive, and a romantic new venture from the team behind Wax Paper that sits right along the L.A. River.

Jemma Di Mare: This East Coast-ish Italian spot is by the chef behind Jame EnotecaandOspi. While those two spots are among our favorite Italian restaurants on the Westside, Jemma is still a work in progress. The menu skews red sauce Italian, and while there are some highlights—the spicy vodka rigatoni is a nostalgic wonder—the rest of the menu is uneven.

Baar Baar: As an idea, this modern DTLA restaurant pairing creative riffs on Indian food with pulsating house music sounds exciting. But in reality, not all the beautifully plated fusion-y dishes are as flavorful as they look. Do use this place as a fun post-work co*cktail spot, though, because the Bollywood-inspired co*cktails are excellent.

Iki Ramen: If you’ve ever eaten at the original Iki Ramen in Koreatown, their new location in Hollywood will feel like a pleasant upgrade. It has an airy, high-ceiling dining room on Sunset, plus the same great noodles and sashimi for a casual weeknight meal. We hoped that the 15-course omakase would push it from good to great, but you're better off sticking to one of their chirashi bowls.

We didn’t realize a bowl of curly fries could induce such a publicly audible gasp until these loaded raclette fries hit our table at The Ruby Fruit. Check out our full review to find out why we love them, and how this wine bar got an 8.3.
